The Barbera d'Alba Valbianchera Vecchie Viti of Giovanni Almondo winery is a wine made with grapes grown in clay and calcareous soil on the Roero hills. The grapevines date back to early 1900, from which the name “Vecchie Viti” derives. After aging in used French oak barriques, this wine shows an intense ruby red color and it develops a fruity and intense bouquet with notes of jam, ripe cherry and aromatic herbs. The Barbera Vecchie Viti of Almondo winery has a good structure, a persistent final and a good balance. It is perfect if drunk in combination with meat dishes, cold cuts and seasoned cheeses, but it is also great with a good risotto with porcini mushrooms.
This is a family-run-business, today as in the past. The purpose of this estate is the consolidation’s attestations of wine quality and the spread of an image about the locality. The aspiration is to produce wines able to reflect the characters of the Roero area, its territory and its values, by respecting the tradition and the ability of innovation. The Almondo family sees about the 15 hectares of vineyards in Montà: the chemical interventions are minimal, always manual weeding. The prestige is of Domenico, who has understood the potentiality of some grapes and of the Roero’s terroir, that is perfect for its potentiality of grapes’ maturation.
