The Barbera d’Alba “Monbirone” of Monchiero Carbone is produced with grapes that derive from the hill with the same name in the district of Canale. This wine presents an intense ruby red colour with violet nuances, while the smell reveals an elegant and fruited bouquet, refined and intense, with hints of cherries, plum juniper berries and coffee. This wine owns with a good structure and an high acidity; sapid and persistent it’s perfect if drunk with braised and roasted meat, salami and medium seasoned cheeses.
Situated in Canale and in the heart of the Roero area, Monchiero Carbone winery has been founded in 1987. Marco Monchiero, a well-known enologist, and his wife Lucetta Carbone decided to unite the plots of their two families, who began to make wine at the beginning of 1900 and stopped a few years ago. The production of wine restarted in 1990, also because of the son Francesco who began to have enological studies. In the last years, the estate has grown up, thanks to the implantation of new vineyards: one of Arneis grapes on the Renesio hill, in Canale, and another one of nebbiolo grapes in the Anime hamlet. Mombirone and Printi vineyards, which are families propriety from many years, has been doubled.
