The origins of the Produttori del Barbaresco can be traced back to 1894, thanks to Domizio Cavazza, principal of the Alba Enological School and owner of the Castle of Barbaresco with its adjoining estate. Cavazza founded the Cantine Sociali di Barbaresco for “the production of fine and table wines,” bringing together nine families of winegrowers and beginning to vinify Nebbiolo grapes in the cellars of the Castle. He was also the first to call the wine by the name of the village: thus, tradition holds, Barbaresco wine was born. Another key date is 1958, when Don Fiorino Marengo, the visionary parish priest of Barbaresco, gathered 19 growers and founded the Produttori del Barbaresco winery. Today, the Cantina dei Produttori del Barbaresco stands as one of the most prestigious cooperatives in the Italian wine scene. It now brings together about 50 winegrowing families who cultivate over 100 hectares across the three historic communes of Barbaresco, Neive, and Treiso. The philosophy is simple yet rigorous: to best express Nebbiolo, the noble grape of the Langhe, through traditional winemaking and meticulous care in the vineyards. Since 1967, alongside the classic Barbaresco, the winery has also produced single-vineyard selections that highlight the unique characteristics of each cru. The Produttori del Barbaresco are today regarded as an international benchmark for those who wish to discover the elegance, longevity, and finesse of Barbaresco wines—bottles that embody tradition, terroir, and consistent quality year after year.
