The Bertani winery was founded in 1857 by Giovan Battista Bertani and his brother Gaetano on the hills of Valpantena, just outside Verona in the Veneto region. Thanks to Gaetano’s studies in France under the guidance of Professor Guyot, technical knowledge was applied in the Verona area, bringing a wave of innovation and avant-garde practices. Their forward-thinking approach extended beyond viticulture and winemaking techniques. Bertani was among the very first wineries to market wine in bottles, launching the first exports to the United States by the late 19th century. During the 20th century, Bertani experienced a flourishing period of expansion into the Valpolicella hills. Today, the estate includes over 200 hectares of vineyards in the most suitable areas of the Verona province. Bertani’s empire is made up of two historic wineries: Grezzana, where winemaking, bottling, and shipping take place, and Tenuta Novare, in the heart of Valpolicella Classica, where some of the world’s greatest red wines are aged and brought to life. In the vineyards, every practice is careful and environmentally respectful, with old vines up to seventy years old coexisting alongside newly planted ones, all cultivated according to organic farming principles. The flagship wine of this majestic estate is undoubtedly Amarone, one of the most appreciated and awarded red wines worldwide. Year after year, Bertani proves that innovation and the courage to act are the essence of success, while never forgetting respect for and care of its identity and roots.
