ETTORE GERMANO
The Ettore Germano winery has very deep roots: on the Cerretta hill in Serralunga d’Alba, in the province of Cuneo, the Germano family has been involved in winemaking since 1856. Ettore, the son of Alberto, continued the work of his father and grandfather, and it is to him that the company owes its renewal: starting in the 1950s, the vineyards were replanted and grafted using massal selections, increasing the density to 4,000 vines per hectare. Dolcetto, Barbera, and Nebbiolo grapes began to achieve much higher quality levels than in the past. The company’s turning point came later with Ettore’s son, Sergio, who acquired land in Alta Langa, precisely in Cigliè, where white grape varieties such as Riesling Renano and Chardonnay were planted, which over the years would deliver simply excellent results. Today, the estate covers about 15 hectares in total: ten in Serralunga d’Alba for red grape varieties, and five in Cigliè for white grapes. The wines produced are all of the highest quality.
