GÉRARD BERTAND
Gérard Bertrand is one of the most influential figures in the French wine scene, renowned for his commitment to producing organic and biodynamic wines that best express the terroir of Languedoc-Roussillon. Born in Narbonne in 1965, he began working in the vineyard at a young age, alongside his father Georges at Château de Villemajou, in the heart of the Corbières region. After a career in professional rugby, he decided to fully dedicate himself to winemaking, transforming the family estate into an internationally recognized wine group. Today, Gérard Bertrand manages 16 estates in the South of France, including Château l’Hospitalet, Clos d’Ora, Domaine de Cigalus, and Clos du Temple. His wines range from bold reds to elegant whites, as well as award-winning rosés such as Gris Blanc and Clos du Temple, considered one of the finest rosés in the world. Bertrand’s philosophy is deeply rooted in the values of excellence, with the goal of enhancing the best terroirs of Southern France. His methods of production and cultivation are in perfect harmony with nature: over two-thirds of his vineyards are farmed biodynamically, with the ambition of certifying the entire production. This approach has earned him numerous accolades, including the title of "Winemaker of the Year 2023" awarded by The Drinks Business.
