Orlando Abrigo winery was established in 1949 in Treiso, in the earth of Langhe and Barbaresco appellation. In the past, Orlando, Giovanni’s father (who’s the current owner) used to vinify his own grapes coming from 3 family-owned hectares of vineyards. Those plots were grown by the local sharecropper. At the beginning of the Seventies, Orlando decided to come back home and started growing his estate on his own. In 1973, the first bottle of Barbaresco came to light. In 1981 the most important wine of the winery obtained the DOCG appellation, and after few years Giovanni, the second-born son, decided to enter the family business and to work side by side with his father. There was a unique condition: Giovanni should have been the only one to take the decisions. First of all, he convinced his father to renovate the equipment and the cellar. In 2013 the main turning point took place: the original cellar was totally renovated and thought as a place where wine should rest quietly, where the manual work can be done easily using the best vinification techniques, looking for technical and quality advance guard. Today, the estate is run by Giovanni Abrigo and counts 21 hectares. It is appreciated for the environmental sustainability and the respect of the natural rhythm of viticulture. Each wine represents a perfect combination between innovation and care of the traditional techniques. Orlando Abrigo wines are characterised by elegance, complexity and true expression of their terroir.
