GIACOMO BOLOGNA "BRAIDA"
This important family-run winery was founded in 1961 by Giacomo Bologna, an enlightened winemaker who had inherited from his father Giuseppe the vineyard, the nickname Braida, and a deep passion for the art of producing vegan wine. Today, Giacomo is considered worldwide as the father of modern quality Barbera, and his children, Raffaella and Giuseppe Bologna, run the estate, representing the third generation of the ‘Braida’ family. They have transformed the taste of Barbera, giving this wine a noble and high-quality character. It is thanks to Giacomo Bologna Braida that Barbera d’Asti regained its dignity. His great insight was to enhance both the characteristics of the territory and of the grape variety by using French barriques for aging. At the time, the use of small French barrels was an unknown practice in Italy, which soon proved to be a brilliant and pioneering idea of great success. From the long aging in barriques come the winery’s two legendary labels: “Bricco dell’Uccellone” and “Bricco della Bigotta.”
