Bodegas Roda was founded in 1987 in Haro, in the heart of Rioja’s wine district, within the area known as Barrio de la Estación. The winery’s name echoes the legacy of its founders, Mario Rotllant and Carmen Daurella, who envisioned an estate with an avant-garde spirit and contemporary architecture—boldly contrasting with the more traditional neighboring producers. This same forward-thinking, unconventional spirit is reflected in their wines, which elegantly blend the warm, traditional notes of spice and ripe fruit with fresh, captivating nuances. Bodegas Roda follows winemaking practices that respect the identity of Rioja and its native grape varieties. Within the typical calado (underground wine cellar), everything reflects a commitment to sustainability and care. The winery's philosophy is rooted in research and innovation, constantly experimenting with winemaking techniques and studying how different grape varieties respond to changing climatic conditions. The focus is placed on old vineyards, favoring low yields and high quality, with separate vinification for each plot. In fact, grapes from seventeen different vineyards undergo individual vinification processes, preserving the unique character of each site. While most of the vineyards are located in Haro and nearby villages of the Rioja Alta, some parcels are also situated in the sub-regions of Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Baja—a geographic diversity that translates into the wines’ complex and aromatic profiles.
