BRUNO ROCCA
The Bruno Rocca winery has deep roots in the Langhe region, dating back to the early 19th century, specifically to 1834, the year in which the family patriarch, Francesco Rocca, was born. According to historical records, he was a farmer native to the town of Barbaresco and owned land, houses, and vineyards scattered throughout the municipality. Written documents from the time refer to the family’s activity in agriculture and livestock farming, and they especially highlight viticulture as an important source of income. In 1958, viticulture officially became the family’s main occupation with the purchase of a vineyard in one of Barbaresco’s most celebrated crus, Rabajà. This marked the beginning of an unbreakable bond between the Rocca family and the world of wine. By the late 1970s, Bruno’s son began vinifying and bottling wines made from the family’s own grapes. Nowadays, the estate encompasses 15 hectares of vineyards located within some of the most renowned crus of the Barbaresco denomination: Rabajà, Currà, Fausoni, and Marcorino. The winery’s philosophy centers on the separate vinification of each vineyard, and every label is dedicated to a specific cru. The winemaking process follows traditional, non-invasive methods, with careful selection of grape clusters and gentle pressing. Fermentation is intentionally long, and aging takes place primarily in large oak casks, often exceeding 40 months of maturation. Nowadays, the Bruno Rocca winery is managed by Bruno’s children, Francesco and Luisa.
