Borgogno winery is one of the most prestigious and oldest names associated with the world of wine in the Langhe region. Founded in 1761 in Barolo, from the very beginning it has been a benchmark for many local producers and a beacon of excellence in winemaking tradition. Already in its early years, Borgogno’s Barolo was sold bottled, and at the historic official lunch celebrating the Unification of Italy in 1861, a sumptuous bottle of Borgogno Barolo stood out on the table of the powerful. The patriarch of this wine empire was undoubtedly Cesare Borgogno, credited with expanding the market for quality wine worldwide. Today, the estate covers 31 hectares of vineyards located among the most prestigious Barolo crus. There are parcels in the MGA Liste, Cannubi, Cannubi San Lorenzo, Fossati, and San Pietro delle Viole. Vineyard work is careful and sustainable: natural fertilizers are used, no chemical herbicides are applied, and every process follows organic farming principles. In the winery, the timing of the wine is meticulously respected: fermentation is spontaneous with indigenous yeasts in cement tanks, and aging takes place over long periods in large oak casks. The style of Borgogno wines is unique and recognizable: the knowledge of the ancestors is respected, maintaining a traditional and classic approach. This results in aristocratic and austere wines that strongly withstand the passage of time and evolve in an astonishing way. In 2008, the company was acquired by the Farinetti family.
