Bel Colle Winery was founded in 1974 on the hills of Verduno, in the heart of the Langhe region, by brothers Franco and Carlo Pontiglione together with Giuseppe Priola. From the very beginning, the goal has always been clear: to produce wines of the highest quality, with a strong identity, that highlight the enological excellence of the Langhe hills and stand as ambassadors of Piedmontese winemaking tradition throughout the world. The land on which the estate was historically established has always been particularly suited for the production of Nebbiolo for Barolo, as well as Verduno’s quintessential native grape variety: Pelaverga. However, the founders of Bel Colle were forward-thinking and allocated various vineyards to the cultivation of Barbera and Dolcetto, while also committing to enhancing the reputation and prestige of native white grape varieties. They gave considerable attention to Arneis—the noble grape of Roero—as well as Favorita and Nascetta. The vineyard plots lie at altitudes between 300 and 400 meters, and the presence of a favorable microclimate combined with excellent sun exposure results in the production of top-quality grapes. In 2015, the winery was acquired by the Bosio Family from the nearby hills of Santo Stefano Belbo. They introduced technological innovations in various stages of production while continuing to honor the traditional values and principles of the founders: meticulous vinification in stainless steel tanks, long aging periods in large oak barrels for red wines, a deep respect for the original terroir, and a focus on cleanliness and elegance in aromas.
