Nestled between the hills of Langhe and Monferrato, in the charming village of Mombaruzzo, stands the ultra-modern Berta distillery, which has been producing high-quality grappas and spirits since 1866, now spanning four generations of master distillers. Originally founded as a wine cellar, the company shifted direction when Paolo, grandson of founder Francesco Berta, chose to embrace a new path. He equipped the estate with alembic stills for grappa production, with the goal of preserving artisanal knowledge and safeguarding the quality of small-scale production. Paolo had the foresight to favor long aging processes for grappa and was the first to use wooden barrels for maturation. Despite early challenges, production soon took off, and today Berta is a globally recognized and widely appreciated name in the world of premium spirits. Today, Paolo’s sons lead the company, maintaining a deep respect for tradition while remaining open to innovation and evolution—particularly in terms of production techniques and enhancing the quality of raw materials.
