Frappato

Frappato is a native Sicilian grape variety with a distinctive aromatic profile, symbolizing the winemaking heritage of southeastern Sicily. Grown primarily in the area of Vittoria, in the province of Ragusa, this grape yields light, fragrant red wines with a surprisingly elegant character. It is an early-budding, late-ripening variety, typically harvested in September. Traditionally cultivated using the bush-trained (“alberello”) system with short pruning and low yields, Frappato produces wines that are easily recognized by their bright ruby-red color and intense aromas of fresh red berries, wild strawberries, pomegranate, flowers, and subtle spicy notes. On the palate, these wines are fresh and enjoyable, with delicate tannins and a perfect balance between aromatic expression and drinkability. Often blended with Nero d’Avola to create the renowned Cerasuolo di Vittoria, Frappato on its own is ideal for those seeking an original, vibrant, and highly versatile red wine.
