More info

The Barbera Santo Stefano di Perno by Giuseppe Mascarello is produced with 100% Barbera grapes grown in the vineyard of the same name in Monforte, in an area of particular value and with privileged exposure. The carefully selected grapes are harvested at the end of September and vinified in steel for 12/14 days with the cap emerging. A refinement follows in medium-capacity oak barrels for a few months before bottling. A wine put on the market three years after the harvest, this label represents one of the best expressions of Barbera d'Alba, capable of giving excellent results even after 10/15 years. Noble and high quality wine, in the glass it shows a beautiful intense ruby red color tending towards purple. The nose develops a wide and elegant bouquet, very intense and fruity, with notes of ripe grapes, undergrowth and light spices. On the palate it is mineral and well structured, balanced and with a pleasant freshness. The Barbera Santo Stefano di Perno by Giuseppe Mascarello goes perfectly with first courses with meat sauce, second courses based on meat, fresh and spicy cheeses.

The history of the Giuseppe Mascarello e Figlio winery has ancient origins: first as conductors of the Cascina Manescotto in La Morra and then on its own from 1881, thanks to Giuseppe Mascarello who bought a land in the prestigious region Pian della Polvere in Monforte d'Alba district. In 1904, his son Maurizio bought a property in the Monprivato area, in Castiglione Falletto district, where he moved the company’s headquarters. In addition to Barolo, he began to produce Dolcetto and Barbera, also buying grapes by some selected winemakers in the area. After the death of Maurizio in 1923, his son Giusepe carried on the company with the help of his brother Natale and his sisters, but a few years later they were forced to divide their streets. Maurizio Mascarello gradually managed to increase the production of Barolo without interfering with quality, thanks to the use of efficient cultivation and winemaking techniques. Starting from 1967, Mauro Mascarello, son of Maurizio, led the winery with the same philosophy to obtain perfect grapes to obtain excellent wines, in the full respect of the territory and the environment.
