More info

Isolano is the new white wine born from the collaboration between Dolce&Gabbana and Donnafugata. Elegant white characterized by an extraordinary minerality, it is produced with Carricante grapes in addition to a small percentage of other native vines grown on the slopes of Etna, in the vineyards between 700 and 750 m a.s.l. on terraces made by dry lava stone walls. Endowed with a beautiful straw yellow color, in the nose it expresses a broad and refined bouquet, with hints of citrus, yellow apple and Mediterranean herbs. Thanks to the strong temperature variations between day and night and to the particular conformation of the terroir, on the palate it stands out for its sapidity and minerality. Equipped with a long and persistent finish, the Etna Bianco Isolano is perfect to drink in combination with first courses of fish, shellfish and savory vegetable pies.

The name of the cave has an historical reference: it derives from the story of the queen Maria Carolina, wife of Ferdinand IV of Bourbon, who looked for a refuge in the locality where today there are the vineyards, following the arrival of Napoleon troops in Sicily. Later the author of the novel ‘Il Gattopardo’ designated the name of Donna Fugata to the properties that received the queen on the run. The history of this winery comes back to 1983, when the Rallo family decided to produce wines of high quality in the town of Marsala and in the vineyards of Contessa Entellina: up ahead the winery moved to Pantelleria, where the family started the production of sweet wines. The Donna Fugata’s wines explain the Sicily, and at the same time they are result of a work, that uses simple but well-thought procedures, respectful of the wines, vineyards and must integrity.
