More info

The Terre Siciliane Tancredi by Dolce&Gabbana and Donnafugata is an elegant and at the same time intense red wine, produced with a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Nero d'Avola and Tannat grapes grown on the Contessa Entellina estate and neighboring territories, in the heart of south -western Sicily . It owes its name to Tancredi, one of the protagonists of The Gattopardo who stands out for his charm and his ability to adapt to changes. After aging 14 months in oak and at least 2 years in bottle, Tancredi presents itself to the eye a beautiful intense ruby red colour. The nose reveals an ample and fruity bouquet, with notes of plum and black cherry, on a slightly spicy background. When tasted it stands out for its character and its fullness, for its important but well-balanced tannins. With a long persistent finish, Tancredi by Donnafugata is perfect to drink in combination with red meats, game and medium-aged cheeses. It is a wine with excellent aging potential, to be collected.

The name of the cave has an historical reference: it derives from the story of the queen Maria Carolina, wife of Ferdinand IV of Bourbon, who looked for a refuge in the locality where today there are the vineyards, following the arrival of Napoleon troops in Sicily. Later the author of the novel ‘Il Gattopardo’ designated the name of Donna Fugata to the properties that received the queen on the run. The history of this winery comes back to 1983, when the Rallo family decided to produce wines of high quality in the town of Marsala and in the vineyards of Contessa Entellina: up ahead the winery moved to Pantelleria, where the family started the production of sweet wines. The Donna Fugata’s wines explain the Sicily, and at the same time they are result of a work, that uses simple but well-thought procedures, respectful of the wines, vineyards and must integrity.
