Merlot Franz Haas 2020

Franz Haas is a South Tyrolean winery managed for seven generations by the same family who have placed their philosophy of life in the production of wine. According to Franz Haas, science and calculation are needed to obtain superb wines, but above all love, passion and determination. Today to run the family business is Franz Haas VII who, with his creative and innovative touch, always respecting tradition, has vinified several Pinot Noirs, following various theses and cultivation and vinification trials. He keeps looking for the perfect wine and has discovered how high altitudes give the grapes unique characteristics. The future of the company is represented by his children, Franz Haas VIII and Sofia. The vine will be treated exclusively with organic substances to favor the natural process of cultivation and fertilization. The grass between the rows is often tall: this should provide the natural pollination and the reproduction of flowers and insects. In 1999, with the first signs of climate change, the winery decided to rent several hectares at high altitude and began planting vines in 2000, resulting in some of the highest vineyards in South Tyrol. Cultivating at these altitudes is more difficult, but the wines made have very peculiar characteristics: they are more aromatic and fruity, more long-lived, more structured and characterized by excellent acidity and minerality.
