This is a powerful and vigorous Nebbiolo wine that takes the name from an homonymous Vineyard in Serralunga d’Alba: Angelo Gaja has decided to call it “Sperss”, by using a dialectal term, which means longing of precious things lost with the time. This wine presents an intense ruby red colour, a little bit transparent; it includes a various and charming bouquet with fruited aroma of blackberry, blueberry, cherry’s jam, black pepper, truffle, leather, licorice. This wine has great softness and important tannins; thanks to its peculiarities, this wine is excellent in combination with roasted red meats, game, seasoned cheeses and platters based on the famous Alba white Truffle. Eventually, it has a good capacity of aging.

The cave was built in 1859 in Barbaresco, in the centre of the Langhe, and all along it is recognized as one of the name-symbol in the production of Barbaresco. From the creator Giovanni to Angelo Gaja, this family has earned a great reputation in wine’s sector thanks to its attentive pursuit of quality. In the 60s years Angelo Gaja has decided to innovate the traditions and to import new productive techniques: from the destruction of the production for hectare to a greater control of fermentation temperatures, from the use of the barrique to the replacement of longer tops. The past as experience, the future as purpose: this is the philosophy of this successful winery.
