This is an elegant Veltliner, produced with grapes deriving from the area of Wachau, one of the most important of the whole Austria, that is included in the “Samaragad” classification: natural wines with an alcoholic proof not inferior to 11,3° and these wines do not contain any trace of sugar. The vineyards are manually cultivated on the hills situated on the west shore of the Danubio. The suffix “Grunen” means green and it concerns not only the yellow-green colour of this wine, but also the typical freshness of it. The wine presents a brilliant straw yellow colour with some green nuances, and it is fresh and fruited, with some nubbin fruits’ hints, apples and elderflower. Moreover the wine has a fresh taste, with a right acidity and it combines perfectly with backed and grilled fish, smoked fish starters and shellfish.
The estate is collocated in the Spitz an der Donau area, in the South Austria, and it was created in 1789, even if only in 1970 Lagler family decided to transform the viticolture in wine-making. Today, the winery includes both the cave and a hotel, and it is managed by Carlo and Elisabetta, together with their son Karl Lagler: the last takes cares of the territory that includes 13,5 hectares of vineyards. Every year 75.000 bottles are sold by the cave, and above them the Gruner Veltliner and the Riesling, another typical wine. These wines represent the real character of the West zone of Wachau, and especially of the Spitz area.
