Masseto is an extraordinary wine produced exclusively from Merlot grapes grown in the various vineyard plots of the Masseto hill in Tuscany. The grapes are harvested by hand in 15 kg crates and vinified separately according to each vineyard parcel. The first 12 months of ageing take place in oak barriques, with each lot kept separate. The wines are then blended and returned to barriques for a further year, for a total ageing period of 24 months. After bottling, Masseto 2022 was aged for an additional 12 months in bottle before being released onto the market. The 2022 vintage, characterised by hot and dry climatic conditions, gave rise to an intense, concentrated, and surprisingly balanced wine. In the glass, it displays a brilliant ruby red colour, while on the nose it reveals a broad, sophisticated, and highly persistent expression, with notes of small red berries. On the palate, it impresses with its elegance, length, and fullness. It is a rich, velvety, and extraordinarily deep wine. The tannic texture is dense yet perfectly integrated, supported by vibrant freshness that provides balance and momentum. The finish is extremely long, savoury, and persistent, with enormous ageing potential. Excellent when paired with premium red meats, braised dishes, game, truffle, and aged cheeses.
