Intense ruby red
Fruited and complex
Soft and enveloping
Intense, deep, and vibrant, the Barbera d’Alba Superiore “Hica” by Gabriele Cordero is a red wine of great character, capable of combining structure with finesse. It comes from a vineyard located on the Bricco Gatti hill in Priocca, in the heart of the Roero, cultivated entirely by hand with full respect for the land and with low yields to ensure maximum varietal expression. This wine is a personal project by Serena, Gabriele’s sister, who—after a trip to Argentina—decided she wanted to create a wine of her own. The name “Hica” is inspired by the Spanish word HIJA, meaning daughter: for Serena, this wine is like a daughter—a powerful and authentic expression of her winemaking philosophy. Made from 100% Barbera grapes, carefully hand-harvested and selected, the wine undergoes fermentation in stainless steel, followed by aging for about 12 months in French oak barriques, then a period in bottle to achieve perfect balance between fruit, body, and complexity.
In the glass, it shows a great ruby red color. On the nose, it offers intense aromas of ripe red fruit, maraschino cherry, sweet spices, and subtle hints of tobacco. On the palate, it is full-bodied, smooth, and enveloping, supported by the vibrant acidity typical of the variety and a fine, well-integrated tannic structure. The finish is long and elegant, with lingering fruity and spicy notes. With its remarkable structure, Barbera Superiore Hica by Gabriele Cordero is the ideal companion to red meats, braised dishes, game, and aged cheeses. It is a wine of significance, crafted for those who appreciate bold, character-driven reds, as well as for those looking to discover Barbera in a modern, refined, and terroir-driven style.
