Dolcetto is the most premature variety among those grown in Piedmont: it ripens by mid September, when its bunches are rich of sugar and are so tasty to be eaten as fresh fruit, too. Dolcetto by Massolino winery is an excellent red wine is produced with Dolcetto grapes coming from the vineyards located in Serralunga d’Alba at 330 meters height. In the glass it is ruby red with intense purple shades. The bouquet is fresh and fruity with hints of ripe cherry, currant and blackberry. The taste is warm and rich, with a good structure and a long aftertaste. We recommend it with salami and cheese, starters, first courses, risotto, soups, red meats, better if grilled.
The history of the cave is connected with that of Serralunga d’Alba. Giovanni founded his own winery in 1896: even now he is remembered, because he was able to give electrical current to his village. Today the cave is managed by Giovanni’s nieces, Camilla, Renato and Giovanni, that have followed the example of their predecessors. They produce a wine, that can be defined the mirror of tradition and of a territory, where it grows.
