Gorgona by Marchesi Frescobaldi is a unique wine resulting from a social project initiated in August 2012, born from the collaboration between Frescobaldi and Gorgona, a beautiful prison island within the Tuscan Archipelago National Park. Thanks to this project, inmates spending their last period of incarceration here can work in nature, gaining skills and experience that will aid their reintegration into society. Gorgona Rosso was first produced in 2015 from a few rows of Sangiovese and Vermentino Nero, cultivated using organic methods by the inmates, under the collaboration and supervision of Frescobaldi’s agronomists. Just like the Gorgona Bianco, the result is an extraordinary wine, symbolizing hope and freedom. After a period of aging in terracotta amphorae, Gorgona Rosso 2022 by Marchesi Frescobaldi presents itself with a beautiful intense and brilliant ruby red color. On the nose, it expresses a broad and complex bouquet, very varied, with notes of small red fruits, accompanied by hints of juniper, Mediterranean herbs, and sweet spices. Among the various aromas, rosemary, sage, star anise, blueberry, and blackberry stand out. On the palate, it is warm and enveloping, yet fresh and savory, characterized by lively tannins. Gorgona Rosso 2022 by Marchesi Frescobaldi is an extraordinary, harmonious, and balanced wine, perfect for pairing with red meats, beef fillets, cured meats, and medium-aged cheeses.
